Kunstwerk in De Doelen Rotterdam.jpg

Frank Nix

Art has played an important role in the Nix family for several generations. My father, Frank Nix, completed art school in Ghent and was a visual artist by profession. He learned different forms of art and to work with all kinds of materials.

He created murals, ceramic wall relieves, artistic playground equipment and bronze monumental sculptures. This was often commissioned by municipalities, companies and schools. Like the wall relief pictured above with music motifs made of marble in the De Doelen concert hall in Rotterdam, in 1963. And below you can see a bronze sculpture group from 1985. This is a memorial to victims of World War II in the former Dutch East Indies.

In the later phase of his life, he increasingly created free work with which he exhibited, such as oil paintings and smaller bronze sculptures. My father, born in 1934, continued working until long. This painting below is from 2006. He passed away in 2008.
